Window Joint Leakage During Indonesia’s Rainy Season: How Weatherproof Silicone Sealant Helps Reduce Water Ingress Risks

2026-09-03

Why Does the Rainy Season Expose Window Joint Problems?

Indonesia’s hot, humid, and rainy climate places continuous pressure on exterior window and door joints. During the rainy season, prolonged rainfall and wind-driven water can reveal weaknesses between window frames, glass, and surrounding walls.

Water ingress is more likely when a sealant joint has poor adhesion, uneven depth, visible sagging, incomplete curing, or cracks caused by normal building movement. For this reason, selecting a weatherproof silicone sealant should involve more than comparing price, color, or packaging.

Project buyers should also examine vertical application stability, surface-dry time, elastic recovery, adhesion after water exposure, and compatibility with the actual construction materials.

How Should Weatherproof Silicone Sealant Be Selected?

1. Confirm the Intended Application

A silicone sealant used around exterior windows should be clearly positioned for windows, doors, exterior walls, glazing joints, or general outdoor construction sealing.

A general-purpose weatherproof silicone sealant may be suitable for perimeter joints around window frames, non-structural glass joints, and connections between frames and walls. However, a general sealing product should not automatically be described as a structural glazing sealant.

Projects involving load-bearing curtain walls, specified movement classes, or mandatory construction standards require separate technical verification.

2. Check Vertical Sag and Surface-Dry Time

Most window joints are applied on vertical surfaces. If uncured sealant sags, the joint profile may become uneven, making it more difficult to maintain consistent sealant depth and surface appearance.

According to the SY-9700 product data sheet, its vertical sag test result is 0 mm. Its reported surface-dry time is 0.5 hours, compared with a listed requirement of less than three hours.

These figures help buyers evaluate application behavior on vertical window and exterior wall joints. The 0.5-hour value refers to surface drying, not complete curing. Full curing still depends on joint dimensions, temperature, humidity, and site conditions.

3. Review Elasticity and Adhesion After Water Exposure

Window assemblies move because of temperature changes, material expansion, installation tolerances, and daily operation. A cured sealant therefore needs sufficient elasticity to accommodate normal joint movement without immediately losing adhesion.

The SY-9700 technical indicators report an elastic recovery rate of 86% and a tensile modulus of 0.7 MPa at 23°C. Its water-soaked tensile adhesion test is recorded as “no damage.” The product sheet also reports no damage after its cold-drawing and hot-pressing adhesion test.

These results provide parameter-based evidence for discussing adhesion stability. They should not be rewritten as guarantees of permanent waterproofing or complete leakage prevention.

Should Buyers Choose a 300ml Cartridge or 600ml Sausage?

The 300ml cartridge is suitable for window installation, localized sealing, maintenance, and projects with dispersed application points. It offers convenient handling and controlled use.

The 600ml foil sausage is generally more suitable for continuous application in larger window, canopy, and exterior wall projects. SY-9700 is available in both formats: 24 cartridges per carton for the 300ml version and 20 sausages per carton for the 600ml version.

Buyers should confirm that local applicator guns are compatible with the selected packaging.

What Should Indonesian Project Buyers Verify?

Before bulk purchasing or site application, buyers should:

  • Test adhesion on the actual glass, aluminum, coated surface, or wall substrate;
  • Confirm the required joint width, depth, and expected movement;
  • Apply a small compatibility test before full installation;
  • Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil or loose material;
  • Review batch information, storage conditions, shelf life, and technical documents.

Weatherproof silicone sealant can support more continuous sealing around windows during Indonesia’s rainy season. However, reliable results depend on product selection, joint design, substrate preparation, and application quality—not on broad “waterproof” claims alone.latest company news about Window Joint Leakage During Indonesia’s Rainy Season: How Weatherproof Silicone Sealant Helps Reduce Water Ingress Risks 0
